Healing the Inner Child

Healing the Inner Child

Self Help Tool - Healing the Inner Child.

How do we know when our inner Child is present? When you have feelings.

The inner Child is the emotional self. It is where our feelings live. When you feel joy, sadness, anger, fear or affection your Child within is coming out. When you are truly feeling your feelings, you are allowing your inner Child to be. Often our inner Child is locked away or trapped inside us, forgotten and wounded. Inner Child work helps to heal childhood experiences, liberating the child, reclaiming our childlike feelings, sensitivity, wonderment, and aliveness.

Inner Child Exercise

Writing a love letter to your Inner Child..

Material: Paper, felt pens, crayons.

Set the intention to connect to your Nurturing parent.

1. With your writing hand, let your Nurturing parent write a love letter to your very own inner child. Tell the Child about all its special and unique qualities, and how much you love them. Tell them all the things that you wished you had been told as a child growing up. Tell the child what you are doing to take good care of it and what you want to do for it in the future. End the letter by asking the inner Child what they need.

Set the intention to connect to your Inner Child.

2. If you have someone in your life with whom you feel safe with, ask them to read the love letter to your inner Child aloud to you or record yourself reading the love letter out loud and listen back to the recording. Observe how you feel as you listen.

3. Afterwards you may want to share how you felt receiving this message of love and what the inner Child said they needed. You can write down how you felt and what your inner Child said they needed in a journal or share your feelings with the person who read the love letter to you.

4. Do a drawing of your Nurturing Parent caring for your inner Child.

5. Finally, put your picture in a place where you can look at it frequently.
